Introducing The Mooring at the Downs
Building on the success of The Mooring on Foreside, The Mooring at the Downs brings the latest innovations in memory care to Scarborough, Maine. Part of The Downs, an up-and-coming, 524-acre mixed-use community, The Mooring at the Downs houses 12 private rooms in a small-house model to enhance connectedness and a sense of community for residents. The home is nestled into the residential neighborhood at The Downs, providing housemates with the opportunity to spend time outside walking through the village, tending to their vegetable gardens, or relaxing in the private, enclosed patio area. This enables each resident to safely socialize and enjoy the benefits of their community.
A hallmark of both the The Mooring on Foreside and The Mooring at the Downs is an emphasis on resident-centric care. Each housemate has an individual suite with a spacious bedroom/living room and private bath. Suites open up to inviting, familiar shared spaces, including an open kitchen, dining room and living room. Housemates are also encouraged to participate in everyday activities, including cooking, housekeeping and laundry. These tasks take on new meaning in a memory care setting, creating a welcome routine and added daily structure.
Throughout the design process, we worked closely with our client, Lynne Peel, to realize her vision of a tranquil, soothing home. One instance of this collaboration was in the creation of the expanded laundry room, where we placed cool-toned cabinets against a crisp white tile wall. Together, we infused each space in the home with classic New England style, nautical touches and coastal cottage decor.
The culminating effect of this attention to detail at every level is a place that truly feels like home. To read more about The Mooring at the Downs, visit https://themooringatthedowns.com/
